Biobased Anti-Adhesive Marine Coatings from Polyhydroxyalkanoates and Polysaccharides

چکیده
Due to environmental regulations, antifouling marine coatings must be gradually replaced by biocide-free coatings. Marine organisms weakly adhere fouling release coatings, presenting a low surface free energy and high elasticity, so they can readily removed the sheer force of water. Currently, these materials are mainly composed petrochemical polymers, such as silicone or fluoropolymers, with hydrophilic polymers additives. However, following ever-increasing concerns, research on new, alternative, eco-friendly is oriented towards use biobased from renewable resources. Two main families have been studied: polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) polysaccharides. PHAs produced bacteria in stressful conditions, while polysaccharides extracted plants, animals, micro-organisms bacteria, which case called exopolysaccharides (EPS). Since non-toxic approach controlling colonization, this review provides an overview for their applications new anti-adhesive

Process Design and Evaluation of Biobased Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) Production
Conventional plastic products are made of crude oil components through polymerization. Aim of the project ANIMPOL is to convert lipids into polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) which constitute a group of biobased and biodegradable polyesters. Replacing fossil based plastics with biobased alternatives can help reducing dependence on crude oil and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. As substrate material ...

The objective of the present study was to apply the polysaccharides from different nontraditional sources for cheese coatings. Chitosan, galactomannan from Gleditsia triacanthos, and agar from Glacilaria birdiae were tested, with different formulations and with the addition of plasticizer and corn oil. The surface properties of the cheese and the wetting capacity of the coatings on the cheese w...
